The Last Kiss…

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way –

We met. Fell in love. Kissed. Fought. Smiled. Loved. … and then kept fighting! The relationship wasn’t perfect, but it was pure and sincere.

The thing most people do not get is that, it isn’t the number of fights that count, but in fact, what matters is that if we can get over them. Promises never stay. One person always messes up. You keep recovering from the fights. …until one day you don’t!

He made me laugh and smile. We shared the same soul. However, it’s only in fairy tales where these things are enough to last a lifetime. “Forever and even beyond”, it’s hopeful, but never enough. It doesn’t get you through the tough times.

Like everything in life, it’s usually the subtle things that make the biggest difference. We look for the spark of excitement, for the big gestures, for the fight scene ending with the romantic kiss. We spend our lives in pursuit for finding the person who makes our life less ordinary. And if you are lucky, that person also has the strength to go through the tough times. But more often than not, you get lonely and backed into a corner and that is why most relationships end. Not because you don’t love enough, but because they aren’t there, they don’t support, there doesn’t remain a “us”.

Sometimes walking away has nothing to do with weakness and everything to do with strength. We walk away, not because we want others to realize our worth, but because we finally realize our own.

For all Harry Potter fans out there, it’s seldom that you find people who will defend you  in the face of the evil and the unbelieving, alike. Someone who has your back… someone who looks out for you… someone who will stand up for you.. That is the person we should spend our lives in pursuit of.

Like Dumbledore always said… We must all face the choice between what is easy and what is right.

They support you even when its the hardest thing to do. Because at the end of the day, we are alone and the most we can hope to find is someone to share a part of ourselves with.

It might hurt to walk away, but that will never compare to the pain of staying. Don’t let the fear of being alone, keep you in a relationship where you are alone!

…..So she broke it off. Because she was alone.. backed into a corner and lonely! She thought back to the day of their first kiss, and the day they shared their last. Nothing but a fleeting moment in time. A tear rolled down her cheek. She was broken. But she took a deep breath, looked up, smiled and let it go….

.. for she knew that there are far better things ahead than any we leave behind!
